There is some debate about whether myofascial release is one hundred per cent effective; what is not up for debate is that using the GRID STK Foam Roller by Trigger Point can help reduce tightness or soreness in a variety of your muscles. If you’re a fan of the TRX grid roller then you’ll love the GRID STK because it’s a hand-held foam roller that allows you to place pressure directly on the tight or sore spots in your muscle and connective tissue in a way that feels like you’re getting a massage.
The GRID STK is very portable can can be used at home, in the gym or on the road while traveling. When I fly international I’ll throw it in my bag to use in flight and once on the ground because it can help with circulation and tightness from being stuck in a seat for too many hours.
The GRID STK works by rolling it over a tight muscle or an area that could benefit from improved flexibility. The pressure of the STK on the muscle tissue combined with the heat generated from rolling on the tissue is the basic science of how the GRID STK (and other hand-held rollers) alleviate tightness and tension in muscle tissue. Using the GRID STK is a great idea either before a workout as part of a warm-up, after a workout to help with the cool-down, in the evening to help wind down before going to sleep or in the morning to loosen up muscles as you’re getting ready for the day. No matter how you decide to use it if you’re extremely active and are looking for some functional, effective solutions for tissue therapy consider adding the GRID STK to your fitness toolbox.
What I liked:
- The grid structure feels great and can help enhance circulation when used on tight or overused muscles.
- The surface is firm yet has some give so it is not too much pressure on the muscle tissue.
- The grips are the best I’ve seen in a stick-type roller; easy to hold on to and functional.
What could be improved:
- While it’s light, it can be a little cumbersome to carry while traveling; a shorter version would be a good option.
